The Yangtze River is the longest in Asia and the third longest in the world. It flows through various ecosystems, serves as a habitat for many endangered species, and irrigates one-fifth of China's land. One-third of China's population resides in the Yangtze River basin. The Yangtze plays a significant role in China's history, culture, and economy. The Yangtze River Delta contributes up to 20% of China's Gross National Product. For thousands of years, the Yangtze has been used for water supply, transportation, and industrial production. It is also home to the world's largest hydroelectric power station.
