Hainan is the second largest island in China after Taiwan and is the southernmost province of the country. The island boasts beautiful scenery, pleasant climate, abundant sunshine, rich biodiversity, numerous hot springs, and clear seawater. Most beaches are ideal for swimming and sunbathing almost all year round, earning it the reputation of China's garden of four seasons and a vacation paradise, attracting a large number of domestic and foreign tourists every year. Since its establishment as a province in 1988, Hainan has seen rapid development in tourism, service industry, and high-tech industries, making it the only provincial-level special economic zone in China. With strong support from the central government and the whole nation, Hainan is set to become China's largest free trade pilot zone.
