The Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, mostly located within Yunnan and Guizhou provinces, covers an area of about 500,000 square kilometers with an average elevation of 2,000-4,000 meters, making it the fourth largest plateau in China. The plateau slopes from west to east, with numerous rivers that have carved out many deep and steep canyons. The soil in many areas of the canyons is fertile, highly conducive to the growth of a variety of crops.

The unique natural environment of the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau has fostered biodiversity and cultural diversity. It is a region in China with a rich variety of forest and mineral resources, as well as an important area for the origins of ancient humans. The plateau is home to the largest number of ethnic minorities in China, each preserving their own rich and colorful cultural traditions.
