Shenzhen is a newly developed city in Guangdong Province, China. Prior to the reform and opening up, Shenzhen was merely a fishing village with a population of just over 30,000. In the 1980s, the Chinese government established the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone as a pilot for implementing a socialist market economy. Today, Shenzhen's population has surpassed 10 million, and the city has undergone tremendous changes. By 2014, Shenzhen's per-capita GDP had reached 25,000 USD, equivalent to the levels of some developed countries in the world. In terms of overall economic strength, Shenzhen ranks among the top cities in China. Due to its unique position, Shenzhen is also an ideal place for entrepreneurs from both China and abroad to start businesses.
