Eating a reunion dinner on the eve of the Spring Festival is a tradition among Chinese people. The reunion dinner is the most important meal of the year and the best time for family reunions, especially for families whose members live in different places. The dishes at the reunion dinner are rich and varied, some of which have special meanings. For instance, fish is an indispensable dish because the Chinese character for 'fish' sounds the same as the character for 'surplus'. In many parts of China, dumplings are also an important delicacy, as they symbolize wealth and good fortune.
