The Grand Canal is the longest artificial river in the world, starting from Beijing in the north to Hangzhou in the south. It is one of the most magnificent projects in Chinese history. Construction of the Grand Canal began in the 4th century BC and was completed by the end of the 13th century AD. Initially, it was built for the transportation of grain, but later it was also used for the transport of other goods. The areas along the Grand Canal gradually developed into China's industrial and commercial centers. Over time, the Grand Canal has played a significant role in China's economic development, effectively promoting the movement of people and cultural exchange between the northern and southern regions.
